Cancer is a tragedy that has affected families around the world for thousands of years. This disease has been a mystery, until recent discoveries have begun to unravel its origins, treatments, and causes. Cancer is important to understand because itââ¬â¢s vast impact on the world today. There are ways to lower the chances of getting cancer as well as removing it. Anyone is capable of getting cancer but the three main factors that can cause it is genetic traits, life choices, and environmental surroundings. The origin of cancer is unknown, there is evidence that it has existed for thousands of years. Two ancient papyri estimated to be written between 1600 B.C and 2500 B.C., describe surgical, pharmacological, and magical treatments for cancer. ( Cancer: What Causes It, and What Doesnââ¬â¢t 7). These ancient papyriââ¬â¢s are believed to be the earliest known documents mentioning cancer. (Cancer: What Causes It, What Doesnââ¬â¢t 7). These documents are important in determin ing the origins, how long cancer has existed, and its impact on humanity. The Greek physician Hippocrates, known as ââ¬Å" the Father of Medicineâ⬠, recorded cases of malignant tumors of the breast, uterus, stomach, skin, and mouth in about 400 B.C. ( Cancer: What Causes It, What Doesnââ¬â¢t 9). Hippocrates created a theory known as the Black Bile Theory, in it he named the condition karkinoma which is greek for ââ¬Å"crab-like growthâ⬠. The Greeks and the Romans wore tunics which are similar to skirts. In this period the garments would have a draped detail whether it is masculine or feminine.
