Cancer is a tragedy that has affected families around the world for thousands of years. This disease has been a mystery, until recent discoveries have begun to unravel its origins, treatments, and causes. Cancer is important to understand because it’s vast impact on the world today. There are ways to lower the chances of getting cancer as well as removing it. Anyone is capable of getting cancer but the three main factors that can cause it is genetic traits, life choices, and environmental surroundings. The origin of cancer is unknown, there is evidence that it has existed for thousands of years. Two ancient papyri estimated to be written between 1600 B.C and 2500 B.C., describe surgical, pharmacological, and magical treatments for cancer. ( Cancer: What Causes It, and What Doesn’t 7). These ancient papyri’s are believed to be the earliest known documents mentioning cancer. (Cancer: What Causes It, What Doesn’t 7). These documents are important in determin ing the origins, how long cancer has existed, and its impact on humanity. The Greek physician Hippocrates, known as â€Å" the Father of Medicine†, recorded cases of malignant tumors of the breast, uterus, stomach, skin, and mouth in about 400 B.C.
